Paint by Numbers!
Coming into winter now we’re really feeling the cold which means plenty of time to stay inside and get a little creative. So I thought why not put you to work with our May vintage decorating idea using Paint by Numbers. These playful kits were invented in 1950 (our favourite era) propelled by postwar prosperity, increased leisure time, and the democratic idea that anyone might paint a picture, paint by number became a popular pastime. Each paint-by-number kit included two brushes and up to ninety premixed, numbered paints ready to be applied to numbered spaces on an accompanying canvas or board. I remember working on one with my Grandfather when I was little, sadly we never finished it but I’ve got great memories of trying too!
Thanks to the in-ter-web I’ve found many creatives from around the globe have used these pictures and patterns to create an artistic space with little artistic talent all it takes is patience, paint and a projector. I’ve collated their ideas here so you can try at home, I recommend eBay and Etsy as a first point of call for that perfect vintage Paint by Numbers kits.
WALL MURALS
Wall murals are a great way to cover up any unsightly walls and give a room some WOW factor, all you need is a Paint by Number some computer smarts with a scanner, transparent paper and a projector. Project the image onto the wall and trace the outline in pencil, chart the colours and number them just like Paint by Numbers. Fun with amazing results.
